Sometimes when I start feeling disillusioned or feeling sorry for myself I remember this poem by DH Lawrence. I recall first hearing it in the movie “GI Jane”… probably the only thing worth remembering from that movie.
I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.
– DH Lawrence
Taking the emotion and “Self Pity” out of any apparent Dilemma, one is left only with the Truth.
Another thought to balance out the words of DH Lawrence:
Life is mostly Froth & Bubble, but
Two things Stand Like Stone,
Kindness in another’s Trouble, and
Courage in your Own
