April 22, 2010 Promotion

I am member of Generation X, and I believe from many perspectives that the tools of Social-Media and the communities being created within the Social Networks like Brazen Careerist are elevating individual who “get it” to the status of Linchpin with this new connected world. Generation Y get it more than X and the Boomers combined. Brazen is a place where a multitude of young Generation Y adults who care about changing the world, turning their passions into careers, and advancing themselves congregate. It was co-founded by Penelope Trunk, a well-known author and columnist in the area of careers, along with Ryan Healy and Ryan Paugh.

10 Reasons Why Having A Blog Matters More Than Ever

April 21, 2010 Social Media

I have been stating indirectly that the social-media and social-search is the future for finding work, be it as an employee, contractor or business owner operator. People, recruiters, companies are going to source people and people supplied services via the web of interconnected people online. When it comes to getting your next job (ok maybe not your next job if you’re looking in the next 12 months but the one after that for sure), the resume is a relic and your blog is the future. You won’t be able to give someone a piece of paper that will say enough about your current voice. A resume reads like a eulogy outlining what you have done in the past, but the format gives very little room to talk about what you’re thinking about today and where you are going tomorrow.

I realize that I can hide anything, and this choose not to try. Instead I leverage the way the Web connects me to everyone and all of our information is intertwined and linked. I look at my comfort with personal transparency as an asset for myself and the personal and professional relationships I have. I believe transparency leads to trust and consistency in all my relationships.

Me? You? Us? Community is the key to a personal brand.

April 16, 2010 Personal Branding

I have been online for the past few months, analyzing how many people like Dan Schawbel, Chris Brogan and Guy Kowasaki have developed their personal brands online. The key common thread I have observed in each of their successes stories is; all of them make everything about the people they are connecting with and not about themselves.

5 Good Reasons To Never Diss Another Individual Online

April 15, 2010 Social Media

It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and insult or diss individuals when engaging in a online debate. Some seem to think, that it adds value to their side of the argument or opinion when they insult or belittle an individual they are disagreeing with, within the blogosphere (tweet, comment or blog post). Some would say calling out or dissing individuals is an important part of our democratic society (freedom of speech), the right to disagree with one another as individuals or groups of people. The trick is in doing it in a fair, balanced and unbiased way while describing the facts to back up your claim, and not just be a personal attack.
